Introduction
The Recipe Organizer ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use The Recipe Organizer on iOS, on Android, and on the web at app.therecipeorganizer.com (together, the "App").
By using the App you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with any part of this policy, please do not use the App.
Information We Collect
We collect the following information when you create an account or use the App:
- Account information — your email address, and optionally your first and last name and a profile photo. If you use the App without an account, we create an anonymous identifier for you and do not collect your email address or name.
- Sign-in information — the App does not use passwords. If you sign in with a passkey, we store its public key and a label for the device. Your fingerprint, face data, and the passkey's private key never leave your device. If you sign in by email, we keep a record of the single-use sign-in link we sent you.
- Recipes and other content you add — the links, captions, and text you submit for import; the resulting ingredients, steps, and nutritional information; photos you upload; tags and notes; and your meal plan.
- Sharing information — the email addresses of people you invite to share a collection or send a recipe to, and which shared collections you belong to.
- Reports and blocks — if you report a recipe, the reason and any note you add; if you block someone, the fact that you blocked them.
- Import errors — when a recipe fails to import, we record the link and the error so we can fix the problem.
- Device and advertising information — in the iOS and Android apps, Google AdMob collects device information, an advertising identifier, and your IP address, as described below. We do not run analytics or crash-reporting tools of our own.
- Technical information — our servers and hosting providers process your IP address to deliver the App and to limit abuse. The App keeps a sign-in token on your device or in your browser's local storage. We do not set advertising or analytics cookies in the web app.
Content You Make Public
Your recipes are private unless you choose to share them. If you publish a recipe, the recipe, your name, and your profile photo are visible to anyone, including people who are not signed in. If you add a recipe to the community collection, it is shown to other people without your name. Other people can save their own copy of any recipe you make public or share with them.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account and sign you in
- Store your recipes and meal plan and sync them across your devices
- Turn the links and captions you submit into recipes
- Send the emails you ask for: sign-in links, invitations to share a collection, and recipes you send to someone
- Show published recipes to other people
- Review reports and remove content that breaks our Terms of Service
- Fix failed imports and other problems with the App
- Display advertisements in the iOS and Android apps through Google AdMob (described below)
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Advertising — Google AdMob
The iOS and Android apps use Google AdMob to display advertisements. The web app does not show advertisements. AdMob may collect and use certain information from your device, including your advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, GAID on Android), IP address, and device information, to serve personalized or non-personalized ads.
On iOS devices, we will request your permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework before allowing AdMob to use your advertising identifier for personalized ads. You may opt out at any time in your device's Privacy settings.
For more information on how Google collects and processes data, please review Google's Privacy Policy and Google AdMob's data practices.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate the App:
- Supabase — our database and file storage provider. Your account information, recipes, and uploaded photos are stored on Supabase's servers. See Supabase's Privacy Policy.
- Railway — hosts the servers that run the App. See Railway's Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare — hosts this website and the web app. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
- Resend — sends our emails: sign-in links, sharing invitations, and recipes you send to someone. Resend receives the recipient's email address. See Resend's Privacy Policy.
- Anthropic — when you import a recipe, the text of the web page or caption is sent to Anthropic's Claude AI service to pick out the ingredients and steps. We do not send your name, email address, or account details with it. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
- Google AdMob — advertising platform. See the section above for details.
- Instagram and Facebook — when you open the original post for a recipe saved from Instagram or Facebook, the post is loaded from Meta inside the App. Meta receives your IP address and may set cookies, as it would if you opened the post in a browser. See Meta's Privacy Policy.
Data Retention
We retain your account information and recipes for as long as your account is active. If you use the App without an account, your recipes are kept under your anonymous identifier until you delete them.
When you delete your account, your account, your sign-in information, your recipes, the photos you uploaded, your meal plan, the invitations and shares you sent, and your reports and blocks are removed from our active systems immediately. Residual copies may persist in encrypted backups for up to 30 days, after which they are overwritten.
Some things are not removed automatically when you delete your account:
- Copies other people saved. A copy of your recipe that someone else saved to their own collection belongs to their account and stays there, with the recipe's photo and, if you wrote the recipe yourself, your profile photo as its author.
- Community collection recipes. A recipe you added to the community collection stays in it, with its photo. It is no longer connected to you in any way.
- Things shared with you. If someone else invited your email address to a collection or sent you a recipe, that record stays in their account until they remove it.
To have community collection recipes removed, email privacy@therecipeorganizer.com, before deleting your account if you can, and we will delete them for you.
How to Delete Your Account
You can delete your account yourself, at any time, from the Profile screen. No request to us is required. You will need to be signed in to your account. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
On the iOS and Android apps:
- Open the app and tap the Profile tab.
- Scroll down to the Account section.
- Tap Delete Account.
- Tap Delete My Account to confirm.
- Tap Yes, Delete Everything to finish.
On the web app:
- Sign in at app.therecipeorganizer.com and open the Profile page.
- Scroll down to the Account section.
- Click Delete Account.
- Click Delete Account in the confirmation dialog to finish.
This removes your account and your saved recipes. Data Retention above lists what is removed and the few things that are not. If you are unable to access your account to complete these steps, contact us at privacy@therecipeorganizer.com and we will delete your data on your behalf.
If you use the App without an account, you can delete any of your recipes at any time. To erase everything, including your anonymous identifier, create an account and then delete it, or contact us.
Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information via your in-app profile settings
- Delete your account at any time from the Profile screen in the app — see How to Delete Your Account above
- Opt out of personalized advertising by adjusting your device's privacy settings
If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or California, you may have additional rights under applicable data protection laws, including the right to data portability and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. We do not store passwords: you sign in with a passkey, for which we hold only the public key, or with a single-use emailed link that expires after 15 minutes. All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
Photos you upload are stored at long, random web addresses that are not listed anywhere, but anyone who has the address of a photo can view it.
No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
